Hi all, this is Bill Higgins of IBM - just an FYI, I've written a book
review of "Extreme Programming Explained, 2nd Ed."

Here's a link to my blog about the book review (comments welcome):
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/blogs/dw_blog_comments.jspa?blog=396&entry=90019

Here's a direct link to the book review:

I'd be happy to hear your comments, criticisms, and insights re: this
book review. I'll monitor the group but you're also welcome to email
me directly (my email can be found on my blog).

My motivation for this post is not to drive traffic to my blog; rather
I'd like to hear from people who know a lot more about XP than I do,
if I've made any unfair criticisms of XP or missed any key points in
my review.

Bill,

I found your review to be clear and balanced. You were talking about what
you got out of the book and what you wished you would get out of it but
didn't. Thank you for the feedback.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Kent,

This was a nice surprise to get an email from you. I'm glad you found the
review balanced. I felt a little guilty reviewing the book without having
used XP personally, but on the other hand, if I hadn't, its likely no one
else on developerWorks would have. I approached the book with an open
mind and consider myself smarter for it. I am about to join a project in
IBM where we'll be applying many XP practices (actually your pair
programmer friend Erich Gamma is on the same project), so I definitely am
glad I read the book.

The thing I'll really take with me is the "good enough" design; I
personally have wasted a lot of time trying to "future proof" systems and
I think because of the arguments you made in your book re: "good enough",
I probably won't waste time like this in the future.

I hope you'll take the criticisms as constructive and perhaps even
influence the 3rd edition!

Take care.

PS - If you're ambitious enough to wade through the developerWorks
registration system, your comment on my blog would be very welcome!
